Tanjong Malim, Jan 15 — UPSI students have been caught up in a blind box craze across campus in recent months, with many hanging these mystery toys on their bags to get a kick out of the surprise.
Recently, blind box phenomenon has become popular among UPSI students. Most of the students attached blind box collection to their tote bags as a lifestyle trend. Many of them have started collecting these blind box figures not only charms. The most popular characters such as Labubu and Crybaby. These figures are frequently seen in lecture halls and libraries, showcasing student’s own styles.
However, there is a cost associated with this trend. A blind box typically costs between RM40 to RM50. This sum might cover the cost of a week of meals for students on a low budget. The question of whether blind boxes are actually worth the money has been raised by this.
Alia Nurshazlen binti Azmi, a Communication student from UPSI who often buys blind boxes, was interviewed to gain further insight into the trend. She believes that purchasing blind box is not a waste of money, as they carry emotional value.
“I buy them for the emotional value,” Alia stated. She views blind boxes as a kind of self-reward due of her heavy academic workload. She added that having a cute figure on her desk keeps her motivated while completing assignments. For her, the purchase is valuable because of the happiness and inspiration that blind boxes provided.
The blind box craze among UPSI students is a reflection of how little items have become an integral element of campus life and self-expression. Many people find happiness and inspiration in this trend, but it also increases awareness of conscious spending, particularly among students with tight budgets. In the end, the blind box phenomena emphasize how important it is to strike a balance in college life between financial responsibility and emotional fulfilment.
